What is 1080p?

1080p is one of the category of HDTV video modes. 1080p is also known as full HD or full high definition to differentiate it from other HDTV video modes.

The number "1080" represents 1080 lines of vertical resolution and since this is widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, there are 1920 pixels of horizontal resolution, while the letter "p" stands for progressive scan or non-interlaced. The number behind letter "p" is referred to frame rate.

1080p is also known as "Complete High-Definition" and is used to describe video equipment capabilities.
