What is Ramdac?
RAMDAC or random access memory digital-to-analog converter is a chip that converts digital video signal from computer into the analog signal needed by computer display. RAMDAC is a combination of three digital-to-analog converters (DACs), that change digital image data into analog signals (one for each primary color - red, green, and blue) and small static RAM (SRAM). The analog signal is sent to CRT display where cathode ray tube turns it into picture. RAMDAC built on todays graphic video cards usually runs on 400MHz clock rate. With new technologies like DVI, HDMI the DAC part in RAMDAC will soon become obsolete.
