XGCDB REVIEWS

RV740 GPU from ATI is a derivative from the RV770 core. The new gpu runs at 750MHz and has GDDR5 memory clocked at 800MHZ. This numbers give this card a memory bandwidth of 51.2 GB/s. Radeon HD 4770 is a 128-bit graphics card. The reviewed model from ASUS is almost entirely based on AMD's reference design, but uses a custom two-slot aluminium heatsink that makes this card fairly quiet one. The EAH4770 is PCI Express 2.0 x16 card, packed with 512MB of GDDR5 memory. This model has the usual list of supported features: ATI CrossfireX, HDCP, DX10.1, SM4.1, and Unified Video Decoder 2 for HD content decoding.

This time we discovered a real pearl among  Radeon HD4830 adapters, XFX Radeon HD4830 512MB who proved himself again how to make quality and highly aesthetic cards. Let's start from the beginning. Card comes in a bit bigger package, tucked in a firm modern box. There are CD/driver, instructions, power supply cable, DVI-to-D-Sub adapter, TV-Out/HDTV cables and that is all. No games, 3D marks or similar fancy accessories.

About the size. The card is in full format, with dual-slot cooler, which is covered with firm plastic. The card looks impressive for the price, actually you have feeling that this card is much more expens...

Looking from the outside, XFX Radeon HD4890 cards look a lot like the standard RV770XT (HD4870) accelerators with a reference dual-slot cooler. As we already know, the card uses the new RV790 graphics chip and a somewhat changed PCB compared to the strongest RV770 models. PCB is of the identical red colouring as the previous model and its layout looks a lot like the previous one's. Beside a bit more powerful power supply unit and a quicker DDR5 memory, a slight difference is found with the cooler, which is a bit more massive because the copper part of the central part touching the GPU is bigger and more massive.

After we had got properly familiar with GeForce 9500 GT model, there comes another GeForce "nine" which uses the same graphics processor - G96. GeForce 9400 GT uses a weaker version of this chip whose number of Stream Processors and TMU units has halved from 32/16 to 16/8, while the number of ROP units remained the same. The same recipe was applied for getting GeForce 8500 Gt card from GeForce 8600 GT, so it's clear that 9400 GT comes instead of the model GeForce 8500 GT, considering that 9500 GT is the successor of 8600.

We have considered several GeForce 9400 GT models and established that most of them use the PCB from more...

Another XFX for testing and it bears the marks of the famous company which has recently taken on its Radeon buddies. The package doesn't have many accessories concerning software, but the most important ones are there, including an HDMI adapter and S-PDIF audio cable, as well as other video cables and splitters which we have already got used to. No, it's neither bigger nor longer than the GTX 285 model, but it's more massive, more precisely done and covered with a phenomenal finish which reminds of rubber plastic. As soon as you look at it and take it in your hands, you understand why you have paid for it almost 500 euros. Its dimension...
